For the past week or so, I haven’t been able to add any friends to my LinkedIn network. When I contacted the site’s tech support, I was told this has been an issue troubling many LinkedIn users. Several days later, I still can’t add anybody. And that begs the question: Of what use is a social network with friends problems?
For users, these kinds of problems are extremely frustrating — in fact, frustrating enough to start looking for a different social network to join.
Unfortunately, many social networks out there seem to be battling technical glitches. MySpace users are actually “losing” friends they’ve already gotten. Days later, the problem is still not resolved.
I understand that social networking is still a very young, developing industry, and these sites are bound to have some glitches from time to time. But when problems don’t get resolved for days, that’s troubling. I doubt users will stick with a network that’s unreliable. I know I won’t.
