LinkedIn, MySpace's Friends Issues

Posted by: Olga Kharif on August 28, 2007

For the past week or so, I haven’t been able to add any friends to my LinkedIn network. When I contacted the site’s tech support, I was told this has been an issue troubling many LinkedIn users. Several days later, I still can’t add anybody. And that begs the question: Of what use is a social network with friends problems?

For users, these kinds of problems are extremely frustrating — in fact, frustrating enough to start looking for a different social network to join.

Unfortunately, many social networks out there seem to be battling technical glitches. MySpace users are actually “losing” friends they’ve already gotten. Days later, the problem is still not resolved.

I understand that social networking is still a very young, developing industry, and these sites are bound to have some glitches from time to time. But when problems don’t get resolved for days, that’s troubling. I doubt users will stick with a network that’s unreliable. I know I won’t.

MySpace has been around for awhile and seems to always be having glitches. But for some reason people still stick with it. It is quite frustrating, for sure.

Oh the irony! When I clicked to see the comment on this entry, I was delayed a couple minutes because Safari could not open the page ( http://rexruff.com/piks/dropped.jpg ). Sure glad it came back, would hate to have to shop around for a new tech with a beat to read.

No LinkedIn problems in Europe that I could see.

Now, when Skype fell over, that was another matter.

As the saying goes, stuff happens.

I have this problem alot.
I have had to make 10 accounts with different emails, regulate my password and I still seem to go from 5K to 0 friends instantly.
