… But since he’s only 53 years old, I bet we haven’t seen the last of him. The chief financial officer of Google will leave by year-end, replacement to be named later. The lack of an immediate successor, as well as the lack of a specific reason for the departure in the press release, may raise questions. But Google insiders say Reyes is leaving for both personal and professional reasons—I couldn’t get a lot more detail than that at this point, but I sense that he has other irons in the fire outside Google, beyond his directorships at Seagate, Symantec, and private companies. Nobody ever actually retires in Silicon Valley, after all.
And after five and a half years in the eye of the hurricane, no doubt Reyes just wants a bit of a rest, for pete’s sake. Which raises another question: Will we see other departures of high-level veterans before long? I wouldn’t be surprised.
