An amazing new stat from the Pew Internet & American Life Project: 28% of Internet users say they’ve tagged or categorized content such as photos or blog posts. I’ve always wondered how widespread tagging would become because it takes a precious few seconds many people online don’t want to spend. But if more than a quarter have done it, that seems more than enough to be useful to the rest of the Net population that’s freeloading on their efforts. And it’s especially surprising because previous estimates had perhaps a fraction of 1% bothering to tag.
