YouTube: 100 Million Videos a Day

Back in March at PC Forum, when someone from YouTube stepped up at a session and mentioned that the video service was streaming 30 million videos a day, I thought she had misspoken. Had to be 30 million a month, I thought.

No, I was wrong. And today, YouTube just hit 100 million a day.

I have trouble even comprehending this. But I also think that the folks who wonder if YouTube can ever make a business out of it have no imagination. How can you NOT make a business from all those people watching videos?

YouTube.com is a NICE NEW GROWING customer of Level3(LVLT) and Level3 has alot more like YouTube.com growing nicely! Video is the NUKE of bandwidth!

High traffic is a license to print money. If Youtube can't leverage this amount of popularity then they're obviously doing something wrong.
The question is: how many Youtube clones can do the same?

One problem with the business model is distribution. Unlike traditional media Youtube serves up videos not only through their site but also in third-party sites such as blogs. By making it easy to include in other sites and decentralizing they have increased the number of videos to 100M but the lack of centralization means their ad strategy needs to change. They will probably need to embed ads within the videos since contextual sidebar ads won't work in this model. This is a difficult proposition since now they have to recognize the context or nature of the videos so they can minimize manual supervision to place meaningful commercials. This is why making money off this is difficult. Maybe if they create an ad distribution model similar to dmarc (Google's radio ad bidder) and something that places ads interstitially they can start monetizing. Until then, it's a nice service with a cloud hanging over it.

Online traffic, as Stefan Richter points, is the new way to generate money with a minimal expenditure. The large corporations, sticking to the old fashion model are catching up but in the mean while small businesses running by young minds turn into real giants.

100 Million a day. That is wild!

If you had that kind of users but couldn't find a way to make money you either don't want to make money of have lost all inspiration.

if it's because of the inspiration and anyone from You tube read this. Hell, send me a mail. Start up a conversation. I'll get the inspiration going. We might just work something awesome out.

YouTube: 100 Million Videos a Day, MAYBE ALL THE RUMORS ARE VALID AND THEY WILL BE SHARING SOME OF THOSE PROFITS SOON!
