Some Useful VoIP-related Sites

Posted by: Olga Kharif on January 10, 2006

With VoIP subscriber numbers skyrocketing, various VoIP-related informational sites are taking off as well. Here’re a few that I’ve found to be quite useful:

1. If you are just starting to shop for a VoIP service, check out this site for price comparisions between the various services out there. VoIPReview.org also lets you compare services by features, such as voice mail and call waiting.

2. If you want to buy a special broadband phone/adopter to use with the VoIP service (and most services can work with a regular phone), check out reviews at VoIPUser.org.

3. Once you have the service up and running, you can use www.TestYourVoIP.com to test your connection. The site can make a call from your phone to one of its test centers and provide you with a free report on your connection’s call and video quality.

Then, you can conduct measurements that not all VoIP service providers can even do internally yet. So next time your service doesn't work well and you call your VoIP company to report problems, you'll have data proving that, indeed, things aren't working well.

Do you know of any other great VoIP informational/testing sites? Please be sure to share them with us.

Another useful site with a directory of over 550 international voip providers and a search engine to compare the international call rates of 170 voip services can be found on www.myvoipprovider.com.

I don't see how this article is that useful. I only like the one site that shows a list of viop providers however I have vonage and it's been great. My bill is only $27 every month and I am constantly on the phone. Sometimes when on the phone I am browsing the web. You can't beat that. I have friends who get verizon bills for $50+, and they use my phone more than thiers. I love technology. Verizon better get with it before vonage steals all of their custmers.

A very good site is http://www.whichvoip.com. Not only does it have a simple way to search for the right VoIP service, but also contains reviews from actual users, forums, news, and a lot more articles explaining VoIP.

Very good site!!!

Packet8 (VoIP Provider) has been proven to be better than Vonage (another VoIP provider). Now packet8 is offering 1 month free with free equipment and activation. I found this website that you can get the deal through. Its called www.Packet-Voip.com
I am on packet8, and I love it!

I have been using Vonage and ViaTalk. Signed up with viatalk because of the 199/yr plus 1 yr free deal they were running. As far as features goes Viatalk wins it hands down. Happy with both services but may cancel vonage after my year is up with them since i already have another provider paid up for another year.

I have been using tringotel business line for the past few months. No major complaints about call quality.

Lots of great features and very easy to customize. But, there is no way to set up multiple voicemail boxes. This is unfortunate because I have a partner. You can use an answering machine with multiple boxes instead, but all of the great Voip voicemail features (including. .wav messages to email) are lost. Lingo and vonage might have the same weakness.

I'm thinking of buying Packet8, but don't know if switching to VoIP is good right now, since it's a fairly new technology. I might switch to VoIP for my auto glass business in Toronto.
