Talk about segmenting the market. Kodak http://www.kodak.com is finally getting around to releasing their EasyShare Handheld Picture Viewer, a $150 gizmo that won raves at the Consumer Electronics Show in January. It shows digital pictures on a 2.5-inch color LCD screen. It joins Magpix’s http://www.magpix.com Pocket Photo Album, a $100 1.5-inch viewer that’s been on the market for a few months. These nifty little devices have a smattering of internal memory for downloading pictures from a pc or camera, as well as slots for SD cards.
Question is, how big is the market for these devices? Just about every new notebook sold today includes at least an SD card slot, as do many high-end phones and handhelds. Sure, they’re lighter than the other devices, but is the tradeoff for a standalone device worth the price?
