New Generation of Search Sites to Threaten Google

New search sites have been popping up left and right lately, seemingly with more frequency than during the Internet boom. This time around, though, these next-generation search sites are no simple keyword search sites. is trying to mesh social networking tools with search. It allows users to search for information on a particular topic, then save it in their secure online folders or share them with friends.

Then, there's, launched by the same two guys who created, which is currently in Beta, is attempting to be a better Froogle (or, for that matter), by offering not just price comparisions for various products but also photos, articles and product reviews. The site will be launched for real in April.

Other recent additions include blog search sites and Even Mark Cuban, owner of the Dallas Mavericks, has financed a new search site in the past half a year.

Though these sites are seemingly coming into an already crowded search market, dominated by the likes of and, there's still room, I think -- especially for sites that, like, are trying to take search to the next level.

Google, beware!
