Mega snoopers at the market? Hide your credit card behind a banana.

Posted by: Stephen Baker on January 14, 2005

Privacy alert. The next big cameraphone scare is just around the corner. No, not cameraphones in locker rooms. That was last year’s story. This year’s suspense comes from the latest batch of multi megapixel cameraphones, which can take pictures with astonishing detail. The early fears that I’m hearing in my New Jersey suburb? Picture evil-minded thieves snapping surrepticious shots of their neighbor’s credit cards at the supermarket check-out line.

Over the top? The image detail on the latest phones from, from Sharp’s to Motorola’s, is so clear that you can take a picture of a magazine article and then scroll through it on your handset. I’ve done this. Haven’t tried it on a credit card yet. Might get smacked with a big salami if I try.
