Funny commentary on gated communities

Posted by: Dean Foust on June 27, 2007

In the community where I live, gated communities are going up fast—every new cluster of even just eight or 10 McMansions, it seems, has a gated fence with a card-reader at the gate. I remember a friend who lives in Wilmington, N.C. talking about a huge gated community there that fought tooth and nail to get excluded from paying certain local taxes. Except that if there was a fire, they still wanted the Wilmington fire department to come put out the fire. Moral obligation, y’know.

Just came across this funny video that was made with Larry the Cucumber, one of the characters in Veggie Tales. Enjoy…

BusinessWeek editors Chris Palmeri, Prashant Gopal and Peter Coy chronicle the highs and lows of the housing and mortgage markets on their Hot Property blog. In print and online, the Hot Property team first wrote about the potential downside of lenders pushing riskier, "option ARM" mortgages and the rise in mortgage fraud back in 2005—well ahead of many other media outlets. In 2008, Hot Property bloggers finished #1 in a ranking of the world's top 100 "most powerful property people" by the British real estate website Global edge. Hot Property was named among the 25 most influential real estate blogs of 2007 by Inman News.
