This bedroom is in a 546-square-foot junior 1-bedroom apartment in the Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan. Its tenant calls it “Sarah’s Modern Glam Palace.” To see more glamorous small apartments, click here.
I’m featuring it because it’s entered in a contest for “smallest coolest apartments 2007” that’s being run by Apartment Therapy, a
chain of urban furnishings stores website about interior design.
Thanks to a BW colleague, Cathy Arnst, a Brooklynite who pointed out the contest after seeing my blog item about the joys of small houses. She wrote, “Do you think all this small-space love is just because we can’t afford anything bigger? I’d probably sell out in a nanosecond for a second bath.”
BusinessWeek editors Chris Palmeri, Prashant Gopal and Peter Coy chronicle the highs and lows of the housing and mortgage markets on their Hot Property blog. In print and online, the Hot Property team first wrote about the potential downside of lenders pushing riskier, "option ARM" mortgages and the rise in mortgage fraud back in 2005—well ahead of many other media outlets. In 2008, Hot Property bloggers finished #1 in a ranking of the world's top 100 "most powerful property people" by the British real estate website Global edge. Hot Property was named among the 25 most influential real estate blogs of 2007 by Inman News.
