February 15, 2006Index Ventures Shines $4M on Stardoll.com

Justin Hibbard
Aimed at teen and pre-teen girls, Stardoll.com lets users dress celebrity dolls in sassy get-ups. Think paper dolls, only paperless. One-name entrepreneur Liisa started the Stockholm-based site as Paperdollheaven.com, a personal project, in 2002. The venture now boasts 900,000 registered members. Advertising is the only visible means of support, though one can foresee the possibilities: selling clothes, celebrity merchandising, collecting consumer info, etc. Index Ventures has led a $4 million series A investment. Mattias Miksche, former founder and CEO of E*Trade in Germany and Scandinavia, has joined as CEO.
