French lawmakers support legal file sharing
Here's my candidate for most forward-looking story of the year. Lawmakers in France have cast their ballots in favor of legal downloading. It seems fitting to end the Deal Flow year with a nod to this story. The legislation stands little chance of actually being signed into law, but it may be a signpost pointing the direction that we're all headed toward. We just don't know we're headed there. Right or wrong, in a digital environment, content wants to be free. That's the way it appears to me, at least. And if I'm correct, the ramifications for the media and tech businesses will be huge. During the coming year, I think we'll have a much clearer sense of how the economics of the media business are likely to unfold.
