Six Degrees of Danielle Steel

Justin Hibbard

Let's play six degrees of separation. We'll start with SchemaLogic Inc., a Redmond, Wash.-based business software company that just raised $4.6 million in a second round of VC funding led by Madrona Venture Group. We’ll end with Thomas Perkins, co-founder of Silicon Valley VC firm Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, and we’ll get there by way of romance novelist Danielle Steel. Ready?

SchemaLogic was co-founded by Trevor Traina, a 36-year-old entrepreneur who’s as famous for being a San Francisco socialite as he is for flipping his Internet startup, CompareNet, to Microsoft at the peak of Le Bubble. Trevor’s half sisters, Vanessa and Victoria Traina, are fixtures in the society columns and often mentioned in the same sentence as the Hilton sisters. Their dad is also Trevor’s dad, John Traina, the owner of Traina Vineyard in the Napa Valley. John conceived Vanessa and Victoria during his 15-year marriage to – you guessed it – Danielle Steel, who went on to marry hubby number five, Thomas Perkins. (Okay, maybe that’s not exactly six degrees, but close enough.)
