If one conclusion can safely be drawn from this week’s upfront presentations, it’s that TV networks are playing it safe this year. Yesterday, #1-rated network CBS presented only four new shows, and kept its fall lineup much the same. This morning, younger-skewing CW presented a lineup with just three new shows, all of which were easy complements to existing programs. On Tuesday, Melrose Place, a remake of the 90’s hit, will follow 90210, CW’s existing remake of the 90’s hit show Beverly Hills 90210. On Wednesday, The Beautiful Life a scripted show about fashion models, will follow America’s Next Top Model. And on Thursday, supernatural vampire show The Vampire Diaries will follow the show entitled Supernatural. CW may not hit too many home runs, but how bad could they screw this schedule up?
