MSNBC Won't Run Bloomberg's Gun Law Ad

Posted by: David Kiley on April 16, 2008

MSNBC refuses to run an ad created by Mayors Against Illegal Guns. The ad shows clips of all three Presidential candidates declaring their position on changing the loophole that allows unchecked gun sales at gun shows. The ad also includes brief messages by Mayor Mike Bloomberg, Mayor Sheila Dixon of Baltimore (Dem) and Mayor John Peyton of Jacksonville, Fla. (Rep.) and Mayor Tom Menino of Boston (Dem.) all calling for bi-partisan support of the change in the law.

A memo from MSNBC to the Mayors group obtained by , said “just heard back from legal about your script…unfortunately, we can not accept as it is a controversial issue ad.”
The ad has been running on Fox News and CNN. MSNBC does seem to have a different standard than its cable peers. It also refused to run ads from political 527 group last year that pushed the “merits” of the Iraq occupation by U.S. forces. CNN and Fox also ran those ads.
The Mayors’ ad is not a public service ad. The group pays for the ad time.

It is a political alliance. Too bad msnbc doesn't possess an ounce of integrity. But then look at our government.
