McDonald's "Premium" Coffee

Posted by: Burth Helm on August 23, 2007

I had a longer walk than usual to work this morning, and I picked up a cup of McDonald’s “premium” coffee on the way. McD’s has been advertising it heavily and using it to try to make a run at Starbucks.

Blech. It was about on the level of street cart coffee you get here in New York City, which is colloquially called “mud.” Here’s my ranking right now for my morning cup:

1. Metro Cafe (local place in the basement of our building)
2. Starbucks
3. Dunkin’ Donuts
4. McDonald’s
4. Cart Coffee (tie)
6. Awful, awful, awful, “brown and water” Flavia one-cup machine in our office.

As a coffee fanatic, I couldn't pass this up. Here in Northern California, Peet's is top of the heap.

Couldn't agree more, Burt. I tried it about a year ago, and aside from the packaging it's the same old crap inside. Truly misleading and awful.

I believe McDonald's coffee has a BURNT coffee grounds taste. A friend tried it for the first time and could not finish the cup and he is a military veteran.
