The ANA Conference – Day 1. Visits from the Ad Fairy

Posted by: Burt Helm on October 06

I guess I should have known. Since I’m still new to the beat, this is my first time attending the annual Association of National Advertisers (ANA) conference, a pow-wow of top marketers from the biggest brands in the U.S. This year it’s at the swanky Ritz-Carlton Conference Center in Orlando. And in addition to getting chocolate on my pillow last night, I also got near-constant deliveries of (big surprise) ads.

If I stepped out yesterday for so much as a moment last night, a piece of advertising schwag found its way into my room. I came back from the gym to find a tote-bag full of promotions from Meredith sitting on my bed. I took a pit-stop after dinner, and someone had left a toy bucket and pail on the nightstand, with an advertisement for OnRequest Images. I started to get the feeling that someone else was staying in my room. When I came back from after-dinner drinks to find a “Do Not Disturb” hanger on my room’s doorknob (a promotional gimmick from TBS), I actually knocked just to make sure.
