For weeks, I have been hearing these ads that stick in my head for Buckley’s cough syrup. “It Tastes Awful, And It Works,” go the radio ads, which go on about how nasty the stuff is to take or smell. It’s not the usual approach for cough medicine. But I can’t tell you what the heck Robitussin or Dimetapp are advertising these days.
The ads have been running in the New York area on AM radio the last several weeks, as the company is looking for growth South of the border. In Canada, it’s as well known as Robitussin is down here.
The effectiveness of the ad campaign made me think this morning that perhaps the currently loathed transit workers in New York who are on strike might take out some ads. Here’s the ad copy: “Okay, we know we are being a pain in the ass to millions of New Yorkers, but think of how much exercise you are getting walking from Brooklyn to Midtown. You shoould be paying us what your normally pay for health-club dues.”
