New Twitter TV show might be a hit...

Posted by: Stephen Baker on May 26

OK, chances are that the Twitter-inspired TV show will be a flop. Most shows are.

But when it comes to successful tech-inspired plots, think about Martin Scorcese’s The Departed. The plot revolved around the cell phone. The story could not be told without it, could not have happened without it. And yet very few people coming out of the theater would call it a cell-phone movie.

Of course, The Departed was an ambitious Hollywood production by a leading director. Chances are that the Twitter TV show will turn out to be just a celebrity-hunting gimmick trying to take advantage of a fad. But it doesn’t have to be if its creators use their imagination.

1.It seems to me that blogging is a great way to exspress your opinion anonomously. 2.It is also a way to endorse a product honestly, because there's no financial gain, just real opinion.
3.Another advantage of bloggingusually points out market trends, although, you have no way of knowing how long these trends will last!

'tech-inspired plot'? I'm guessing you *actually* mean 'Hong Kong film-inspired plot', as there was no original thought whatsoever that went into the Departed.
And do you not think we're overdoing the Twitter hype bandwagon?

Comparing The Departed to a celebrity hunting gimmick is like comparing apples to apples. It's hardly ambitious to rip off an excellent Hong Kong production released just four years earlier, and reproduce it as a Hollywood blockbuster with a big name director in the twilight of your career.

I am always surprised by how much some people hate twitter, anyway the show has been nixed, or at least it is not associated with the site. But the founders still plan to launch other products: http://www.newsy.com/videos/twee_vee_twitter_gets_down_to_business
