I spent much of the last month working on this story, The Next Net. It’s about the mobile Internet, something I spent lots of time writing about 10 years ago in Europe. (And some would accuse me of hyping it, and even creating an urban legend about Starbucks.) But this take on it is closer to the Numerati focus: It looks at the data we produce as we move around, and how our mobile wanderings will become a vast laboratory of human behavior, for marketers and scientists.
As an executive producer for Entercom, one of the nation's leading radio groups, we're running 180 miles an hour to push our local content to mobile devices. My company is already extending its flagship news brands by feeding live, local updates to our listener's smartphones and we're seeing immediate traction. When you wrote The Next Net ten years ago, who would have thought that such a small screen could play this big a role in the consumer's media day?
