More good news for bloggers. After the Federal Election Committee decided that bloggers who stump for candidates don’t fall under the restrictions of federal finance laws, now New York State is considering giving bloggers the same protections as journalists.
State Sen. Thomas Duane is proposing a law that would “protect bloggers from contempt-of-court charges for refusing to disclose confidential information or sources,” reports Editor & Publisher.
E&P reports that he was motivated by a grand jury subpoena requiring that the Room Eight blog identify anonymous posters. Room Eight fought the subpoena and won.
Next up, bloggers get to share the joy of long story meetings!
sort of a free trade zone??? i wonder what will constitute a blogger under this law? full time, part time, a 14yr old child???
i can imagine questionable posts that can then go up unquestioned.
