I'm a tech Rip Van Winkel, and here I come

Posted by: Stephen Baker on December 12

For months and months, I’ve been tied down with the oldest of old media projects, a book and a magazine piece. With all the secrecy and meetings and editing, I might as well be working in the 19th century.

During this whole process, I’ve been looking at all these Web 2.0 eruptions. Twitter, Facebook, video. And I’ve been saying to myself, I’ll get to it, I’ll get to it, just as soon as I emerge from my Henry James period.

Well, here I come. The big projects are winding up. I don’t know exactly where to start. Maybe I’ll work on the Blog cover wiki. I’ll learn about video. (Scott Karp seems a little down on Twitter). In any case, I look forward to rejoining this century. And I’m open to all recommendations on how and where to begin.

gasp! you mean you weren't using a wiki to manage the project and record all the meetings/action items/results? why didn't you do like many other authors and blog about the process for writing the book/article? "we" could have helped you by providing commentary on the progress of each...haven't you learned that transparency is the optimal method to reach the "customer" and that is why you write, correct - to reach the "customer"?

how to begin? start at the end and work backwards from there...in other words, you won't get there if you don't know where you are going...you will get "someplace" and likely will have a fine journey, but it might not be the trip you have in mind....
