Podcast: Listen to the machine

Posted by: Stephen Baker on July 24

I cued up the podcast of an MIT Tech Review interview with Google’s Peter Norvig .(ex ebiquity). And instead of hearing Norvig, I listened (for a few seconds) to a machine read the printed Q&A.

What’s the point? They presumably have the interview on tape. But instead of sharing that with us, they edit it, reduce it to written words and hand it over to a reading robot! The result reminds me of those dissicated blueberries that used to come in breakfast cereals. Pour a little milk on them, and they get a bit juicy. But they’ll never be berries again.
