Here’s an interesting post on the magic of the baby brain. (ex Marginalrevolution). The idea is that babies’ brains have a focus and a plasticity that we jaded, task-oriented adults lack. Of course, lots of us try to regain that baby magic, either by traveling, taking drugs, or diving deeply into religion. But the fact remains that babies have the edge on the rest of us wannabes. In a sense, their brains are as supple and adaptive in the mental world as their stems cells are in the physical one. Yes, they have the advantage, but there’s a trade-off. They tend to be woefully ignorant, and they startle easily.
