Podcasts on Learning Italian?

Posted by: Heather Green on December 28

A brief personal plea. Anyone know any good podcasts for learning Italian? And actually maybe the bigger question is have any good stories for how you have discovered obscure podcasts?

Hmm, podcasts no. But how about audiobooks? There's a bunch on iTunes.

Heather,

How about Mandarin? We put www.ChinesePod.com together and dashed straight to number 3 on the Yahoo podcast directory. Mandarin is more niche thn Italian so I think this shows that podcasting and language learning are well suited. It won't take long before someone produces one.

I've done a fair bit of writing on my blog about how podcasting will revolutionize language training, the audio-book industry, and so on. In many ways the parallels with recent developments in the media industry are very informative. I think that development may even offer the basis of a BW story: www.suixuan.com/blog

And btw, we're charging (and getting) a subsctiption fee for our service. That might be news too???

Heather, here's an idea: Learn Mandarin, use it in Italy, and blog about it, perhaps in English.

Heather:

Here's a link to an elementary Italian podcast:

He does a great job, especially if you're a complete beginner. Buona Fortuna!

learnitalianpod and insideitalian are basic beginner sites with a short dialogue thrown in
there needs to be something more indepth, with a longer more complicated dialogue at the speed of speech not the slow motion that is offered

Oh it's news alright, Ken. Bad news. Making airwaves free is so hard for some people who are unable to resist their own greed.

I will not subscribe to podcasts that charge a fee for their service, particularly when they aren't very good in the first place.

Unfortunately, I have not found an Italian podcast that is actually good. Or a Chinese one for that matter. Excellent French and Spanish ones out there, though.

I hope you'll try my podcast called Let's Speak Italian!

It's a daily podcast that is only 3-5 minutes long. Just enough to keep you interested, but not too much that you fall behind and give up.

I hope you'll give it a listen!

"La Costa dei Barbari" podcasts from Swiss Radio are really entertaining but they're at an advanced level.

"Grammatica di Strada" is also entertaining.

You can find these by searching for the words with Google. On my website you'll also find some entertaining audio and video in Italian with the script and vocabulary. www.freewebs.com/keithgilbert

Buon divertimento!

Ciao, my name's Lisa and I'm Italian. I'm thinking of starting my own podcast for people interested in learning Italian. I've read some of you are finding it hard to find a GOOD podcast. What is it exactly you are looking for in a podcast? What makes a good service? Any comment would be greatly appreciated.

Grazie mille per il vostro aiuto. Un saluto a tutti e buono studio!

ItalianPod, the fourth language podcast from Praxis Language, has launched and maybe a good place for you, Heather, to find fun and useful Italian classes - http://italianpod.com

Lisa, I'm looking for an Italian podcast similar to the French podcast DailyFrenchPod. It gives a good combination of listening, reading and writing. Both fast and slow versions, and definition/descriptions are given. It's good for those of us who have some language, but it's gotten rusty - too many basic programs are out there, starting with hello, my name is...
Thanks, I hope you get something going.

In addition to the podcasts mentioned above, I also like "My Daily Phrase Italian" by the BBC. 100 lessons arranged by topic geared for travelers.

A good podcast for intermediate learners of Italian is the Incontro Italiano podcast, completely in Italian:
http://www.maxmondo.com/incontroitaliano
You can also watch Italian videos on the site.

I prefer www.pastacast.net

It's simple and very clear on grammar rules, it's a great Italian podcast
