BW story on blog search

Posted by: Stephen Baker on July 14

You’ve probably noticed a lot of posts on blog search in the last week. They led to this story that just went up on BW Online. After blogging, it was a bit of a shift writing about this subject for a magazine audience that doesn’t necessarily know about blog search yet. Many readers haven’t heard of Technorati, much less the recent problems there. Space was tight (one page in the mag), so I largely steered clear of two important areas that would have required more explantion: Rss and tags.

Good job for sure. Such a huge topic, I'm sure it was hard to decide to exclude RSS and tags. I think in the near future one of the most important functions of blog search will be persistent search for tags delivered via RSS. The scenario of hearning about a buyout over lunch and then doing a blog search is less exciting than being notified automatically about a new blog post regarding a buyout of a competitor and then being the one at lunch who allready knows about it.

Of course, if Technorati crashes and burns then tagging will have some catching up to do, but hopefully that won't happen.

Marshall, good point about RSS. The one thing I'll say to defend blog search is that a trader who's interested in practically any buyout or merger will be hardpressed to subscribe to (and to digest) feeds featuring all the combinations.
