Unlikely Podcasting Pioneer

Posted by: Heather Green on April 27, 2005

Really bold move by radio giant Infinity Broadcasting, embracing podcasting and creating an entire podcasting station. With the traditional way we hear radio under seige from iPods, satellite radio, the Internet and the nascent podcasting technology, Infinity has made some moves to adapt in the past couple of months. Your choice of wording is telling. Traditional radio is "under siege"? I'd call sat elite radio and listening to content on an MP3 player an "evolution!" Is broadcast TV "under siege" from cable? Is dial up Internet "under siege" from DSL and cable? Please. Much of this isn't as new as one might think. Some radio shows have been available for some time as MP3 audio. NPR has been a pioneer in the MP3 audio w/o the RSS feeds. Leo LaPort's technology show on LA radio station WKFI is available as a podcast.

As a longtime swl and Ham radio Operator. I still listen to radio and operate FM and sideband on the low bands. Since I retired I have noticed a lack of activity on 2 meters during the day....almost sounds like it did in 1954.....My wife contends that Ham Radio like film is a dying artform....I must admit I spend more time on my three blogs and thinking of doing a podcast and have purchased audio equipment to do the same. Yet I like the freedom of using my own eduipment that Ham radio brings and not being dependent on tie ins.....But there has to be someone on the other end of the line.

Thank you for your interest. This blog is no longer active.
