Sandisk Surprise

What's this? A non-Apple MP3 player among the top 10? It seems iPods weren't the only bestselling digital music players during the oh-so-crucial December season. Sandisk's Sensa m230, which can play back 8 hours of songs and sells for less than $100, finished better than four different variants of the wildly popular Apple machines.

Sandisk's coup aside, it was nevertheless a stellar quarter for Steve Jobs & Co. Apple sold an eye-popping 14 million iPods in the December period, compared with 4.6 million a year earlier. Apple still retains dominant market share, with about 69% of all unit sales.
