California Leads in Nanotechnology Investment


Though nothing is small about California, it outpaces the country when it comes to venture-capital investment in nanotech. In 2004, a little under half of VC dollars spent on this business went to California companies, according to a survey conducted by the magazine Small Times, in conjunction with the MoneyTree Survey by PricewaterhouseCoopers, Thomson Venture Economics, and the National Venture Capital Assn. However, it's important to note that venture capitalists aren't calling the shots when it comes to nanotech funding. That honor goes to the federal government, which spends nearly $5 billion a year on nanotech research.
