A Jump on the "Next Billion"

Emerging markets—home to what are known as the "next billion" would-be buyers of PCs—lapped up computers at the quickest clip in the first quarter. Growth in shipments to the Asia/Pacific region and Latin America outpaced the rest of the world, increasing almost 25% and 23%, respectively, says researcher Gartner Dataquest. Europe, the Middle East and Africa—treated as one region—had the highest unit sales, with nearly 19.1 million PCs shipped.
