Subject: Sincere Apologies

Dear Peter,

I want to write to you directly to offer my deepest, unreserved, personal apology that your phone records were obtained without your knowledge as part of HP's investigation into breaches of board confidentiality. I can only imagine how distressing this has been for you, as it has been for me. I am very sorry that these activities occurred and am particularly regretful that members of the media, including you, were subjected to this.

These kinds of activities hold no place at HP, and the Company is resolved that they will not again be deployed.

Respectfully,
Pattie
