A Glimpse of Tomorrow


BusinessWeek asked the 40 finalists in the Intel Science Talent Search for their opinions on a variety of front-burner issues in science, business, and government*. Among the clear patterns that emerged: More than half of the students are deeply troubled by global poverty, the proliferation of nuclear weapons, and the potential negative impact of Bush Administration policies on science and the environment. Three-quarters of the finalists strongly supported stem-cell research (only one student indicated no support at all). And all but three expressed very strong support for the development of alternative energy sources. Here are some of the salient results:
