Apple Updates Pro Apps: Final Cut Studio and Logic Studio

News from Apple today is that Final Cut Studio, the powerful video-editing application and Logic, the professional grade audio-editing suite, have been upgraded in a big way.

The big news in Final Cut is the addition of a new series of ProRes codecs that allow for working with video under varying conditions. ProRes 422 (Proxy) is geared toward editing on a MacBook Pro, while ProRes 4444 is for editing at the highest-possible quality. Apple says it has added more than 100 new features to the suite.

Logic Studio was also upgraded. If you know GarageBand then Logic is a big step up, aimed at professional musicians. Among the 200 or so new features here are a new Amp Designer and pedalboard plug-ins are aimed specifically at guitarists. It recreates virtual versions of 25 vintage and modern guitar amps heads with matching controls, so that you can match the sound and the feel of the real thing. I know a few musicians who will be eager to get their hands on it.
