CNet has an interesting story about how the state of North Carolina is offering Apple nearly $46 million in tax breaks in hopes of attracting a $1 billion investment to build a data center in one of its counties where unemployment is high. The Tar Heel state has some history in this having attracted a Google server farm with $260 million in tax incentives. The sticking point appears to be state laws, which will have to changed in order for Apple to be eligible for the breaks. A vote is expected in the North Carolina House of Representatives today. The Associated Press has more detail here.
