Would you or would you not use this if it were available on a Mac?

I wouldn't use it.

How do you envision this being useful? As a media center interface? If it's on my TV or big monitor then I am too far away to touch the screen without getting up - how is that an improvement? Why would I want to get streaks / fingerprints all over my monitor?

The first time I saw a touchscreen HP, I immediately understood the idea but couldn't envision what the practical application was. Gee, that's cool, but, no thanks.

I think it is a solution looking for a problem.

HP had touch screen computers back in 1985, surely not as sophisticated as todays, but you could touch the screen to work with programs that were set up to take advantage of it.

You would be surprised to see how soon this becomes a pain, reaching for the screen wears thin very quickly. I hear people today complain about reaching for the mouse all the time, and they are always looking for keyboard shortcuts to eliminate or reduce their hands leaving the keyboard. The mouse is right beside the keyboard. Sometimes screens are not as close to the user, and reaching for it can be tiring.

Touch Screens are a nice novelty, and in limited areas, such as in store kiosk, it could have long term benefits, but for everyday use I will take the mouse and keyboard that can be placed comfortably near my hands for fast and easy access.

What are these people missing? Designing a better and simplified remote control would far surpass this idea. Why not a touch-screen remote control if you must go 'Touch Screen.' There's an idea. Mine.

With the advent of MultiTouch technology, and it's implementation in Apple's handheld devices, I believe that is incumbent upon Apple to incorporate it into Macs themselves.

I've been supporting Mac users for 23 years, and having a MultiTouch Mac is as natural a progression as the transition from Mac OS 9 to Mac OS X was.

I, for one, cannot wait... and I'll be first in line.
