iPhone To France: Official

Posted by: Arik Hesseldahl on September 20, 2007

Looks like the iPhone is landing in France next. James at PaidContent.org noticed the report out from Thomson Financial quoting France Telecom CEO Didier Lombard as saying the iPhone would be offered by FTE’s Orange unit. Looks like our own Associated Press feed has picked up the story as well. Where will the iPhone land next? I’d say Spain, though not immediately.

Also, I’d start watching now for rumors concerning an Apple appearance at 3GSM, aka Mobile World Congress held each year in Barcelona. It will be held next starting Feb. 11 to Feb. 14 of 2008. It’s after the next MacWorld Expo, which would be the most likely place for Apple to get specific on its next steps for iPhone, specifically a 3G model with tolerable battery life. But given how strategically important the iPhone is to help Apple’s chances at growing its market presence in Europe, something I addressed in today’s column, Apple will want to show up with something to say in Barcelona.
