Liveblogging The Liveblogs

Peter and Cliff are at the Apple event in Cupertino. I’m in New York watching the liveblogs so you don’t have to. I’ll try to update this post with the high points as soon as they become available. So keep checking back.
- Two new iMacs. Looks like the rumors about the metallic keyboard were on the money. Aluminum enclosure, and a glass screen
- New version of iLife, iLife 08, with a new program called “Events,” aimed at simple photo-sharing, Web-publishing of photos. Works with iPhone.
- Big changes to iMovie. One-click sharing with YouTube for one thing. Tighter integration with iTunes for another.
- Online storage of .Mac boosted to 10 gigabytes. Cool.
- iLife $79, available today.
- Updates to GarageBand, and iWork. IWork’s Pages, for instance, will let you easily pick word processing or layout mode. A new application called Numbers, a spreadsheet, akin to Excel.
- More new features to Keynote. New effects like blast, sparkle, bouncy, drift.
- Looks like the Mac Mini, subject to some rumors that it might be discontinued, has been quietly updated as well.
- Hmm. During a Q&A, Jobs said that migrating multi-touch technology to the Mac doesn’t make a lot of sense. But he hedged a tad, calling it “a research project for now.” So at least the thought has occurred. My suspicion is that its too expensive now to be practical and cost-effective. That doesn’t mean it will always be.
