Well, I guess my daily productivity will begin to recover incrementally now that Fake Steve Jobs has been outed as Forbes Senior Writer (and full disclosure, a former colleague of mine) Dan Lyons. In hindsight, it all makes sense: The early-morning posting hours, the familiarity with the Linux fanboys, the writing filled with perfectly-placed references to pop culture and geek culture and insider gags.
Too bad though. Now that the secret’s out, it’s going to be a lot less fun to read. Deep Throat was an interesting topic until Mark Felt outed himself. Once his identity was known, the world seemed to give a collective shrug. Dan did a great job keeping that part of the world that cares about this sort of thing on the hook for months on end. My very favorite Fake Steve posts were the ones that started “So Larry Calls….”
As a colleague and fellow Fake Steve fan observed this morning…. “Well, back to work.”
