Just heard from the fine folks over at Skype, who tell me that a new Beta version of the Skype client for Mac, version 2.6, is out today with a new feature that is showing up first on the Mac side, after which it will migrate to the “other” platforms.
The new feature is call transfer, which lets Skype users transfer a call already in progress to anyone else on their Skype contact list. Its like transferring a call to someone else in your office, even though that office may be on the other side of planet. So that’s the new Skype feature that is appearing first on the Mac.
Additionally, there’s some other features are being added to the Mac client for the first time: You can now join public chats, you can see when others are typing to you, and now the software will update itself automatically. And on top of all that, Skype says it has improved call quality and overall stability. So if you’re a heavy Skype user, this new Beta may be worth a try.
