The Keynote So Far

Posted by: Arik Hesseldahl on January 09

Steve’s up and has been speaking now about 30 minutes. Here’s the rundown so far:

  • Partnership with Paramount
Some 250 movies on the iTunes Store, and Paramount is the latest partner.
  • Apple TV

  • This is the iTV device revealed previously. It will let you buy movies from iTunes from the comfort of your TV. It will support Wi-Fi networking, versions 802.11b, g and n. It will contain a 40-gigabyte hard drive. It will sport an Intel processor. Content can stream to up to five computers. Shipping next month for $299. Apple is taking orders beginning today.
  • iPhone

  • The name appears to have stuck, Linksys’ products notwithstanding.
Combines the phone with a widescreen video iPod.
    Two-megapixel camera.
Three accelerometers, which sense when its close to your ear or when you switch from portrait to landscape positioning.
    Launching with Cingular.
Apparently they are playing The Beatles. Hmmm.
Lots of OS X-like icons available through a touch interface.
    Built in speaker and speakerphone.
3.5-inch screen, 160 pixels per inch. 11.6 millimeters thick.
    8 Gigabytes of storage.
Quad-band GSM and EDGE wireless networks.
Bluetooth 2.0. Wi-Fi as well. Hm.
Onscreen keyboard for typing text messages.
    Integrated iPhoto.
Integrated imap or POP email, including Yahoo. (Maybe GMail too?)
    Safari Web Browser.
Widgets similar to those on the Mac.
Google Maps including satellite images!! How cool is that?!?
Google CEO and Apple Director Eric Schmidt is on the stage now.
Yahoo’s Jerry Yang is there too. Looks like Yahoo2Go, which Motorola made a lot of noise about on its phones at CES yesterday, will be on the iPhone as well.
Here comes the price …. Four Gigabytes $499, Eight Gigabytes $599.
    Available in June. JUNE?!?!
That deal with Cingular is a multi-year exclusive partnership. This means there will be no CDMA version of this phone on Verizon or Sprint. So much for Kevin Rose and his predictions.
  • NAME CHANGE!!!

  • No longer Apple Computer. Now just Apple.

  • That appears to be it. No new Macs, no new displays. iTV and iPhone. But that’s a lot of news right there.
  • Meanwhile I just checked: Apple’s stock is up more than $6.25 or more than 7%
  • .

    More as it becomes available.
