Apple Newton Beats Windows-Based Mini PC

Posted by: Arik Hesseldahl on July 28, 2006

How many dedicated Newton Messagepad users are still using that device? I know you’re out there. Well take heart. CNet’s UK outpost hosted a grudge match between that commercially unsuccessful but much-loved proto-PDA and the supposedly slick Windows-running Samsung Q1 mini PC. No need to guess which one came out on top. The Newton, natch. See the blow-by-blow here.

Wow - this has got to be a new low even for you apple fanboys! http://digitalliving.cnet.co.uk/specials/0,39030785,49282099-7,00.htm has an obviously photoshopped image of a Win9x Blue screen on the Samsung device.

Yeah, that's soooooo cool! I'm gonna get me an Apple Newton to connect to my Bluetooth GPS receiver so I'll never get lost on a business trip ever again!

Oh, wait...that isn't what you were trying to say, was it? See, the Newton is an oversized, really old piece of crap. You're an Apple fanboy, so you don't care about the real world. You only care about things that make Apple look superior to Microsoft.

Well, here's the truth: I have a Audiovox SMT5600 running Windows Smartphone 2003 that cost me $100 on eBay, and when paired with a Bluetooth GPS ($40 on eBay) tells me where I am and where to turn to get to my desired destination (with voice prompts).

This is the definition of the Killer App. Something that fits in your pocket that you're going to carry with you anyway, and yet it can revolutionize your life.

Oh, never mind...you Apple fanboys can just go back to listening to your iTunes.
