As part of our coverage of the world's top innovators, we're asking our readers to weigh in on the results of our annual list of the Most Innovative Companies

So what do you think?

Since 2006, BusinessWeek has published an annual ranking of the 50 most innovative companies on the planet. The winners have been names familiar to all: Apple (AAPL), Google (GOOG), Toyota (TM), General Electric (GE), Microsoft (MSFT). The world will find out whether these icons top the list again on Apr. 9, when BusinessWeek publishes its 2009 roster.

There's been one voice missing from this yearly assessment: that of BusinessWeek's readers. You will be absent no longer. This year, BusinessWeek will incorporate a 10-question reader poll into our reporting. Among the questions: Will Indian and Chinese companies overtake U.S. companies in innovation? Which of the 2008 Most Innovative Companies should not have been on the list?

The official ranking will continue to be determined largely by a worldwide survey of top executives by Boston Consulting Group, BusinessWeek's partner in this special report. (This list is then adjusted for three-year growth in sales, margins, and share price to produce the final tally). But the latest results of the reader poll will be available in real time on this site and may be incorporated into this year's special report. We'll also host a related discussion calling for your thoughts on our NEXT blog.

BusinessWeek also intends to expand its Most Innovative Companies report. In addition to the rankings, company profiles, and interviews with executives, we'll report on the top innovators throughout the year. We will also be asking new questions, based on 2009's survey results, to get further reader feedback and host some lively back and forth. Of course, you can ask your own questions via the reader comments, too.
