Fight as a Jedi in Wii's Star Wars: The Clone Wars

This fighting game lets you turn your Wii-mote into a lightsaber and play through some of the biggest duels of the Clone Wars TV show and movie

Following closely on the heels of the feature film and TV series with the same name, this Nintendo Wii fighting game will put you in the shoes of a cartoon Jedi as they battle enemies in a galaxy far, far away.

This pick-up and play fighting game will essentially let you play through the most memorable duels of the TV show and movie. The fighting looks pretty elementary, simply swing the Wii-mote left and right, up and down and stab to pull off light, medium and heavy attacks with your lightsaber onscreen. The characters each have Force powers and will be able to interact with the environment, though we didn't see this in action in the demo. Those looking for a more complex fighting experience can learn special combos that will unleash more powerful attacks and put opponents at a disadvantage.

Saber locks, a hallmark of all Star Wars movies, will also trigger mini-games and players will have to win them to overpower the other player. Environments include Rancor pits, and locations on Tatooine and Teth also contain environmental hazards, so you can strategically shove your enemy into an electrical conduit for an electric shock. As you progress through a level, the environment will start to change (or tilt in this case) and make the battle more challenging.

You'll be able to play as characters from the TV and film in the game including the multi-saber wielding General Grevious and a new character named Ahsoka Tinno, who is Anakin Skywalker's apprentice in The Clone Wars series.

On first view, it doesn't necessarily look like the most innovative game ou there, but the idea of using the Wii-mote like a lightsaber will no doubt appeal to the Star Wars geek in all of us. Look for Star Wars: Clone Wars on Wii (and also on DS) this holiday season. Reported from E3 2008.
