What Workers Want

Strategic workforce development is a common theme in organizations today. This is true in spite of changes in the global marketplace, soaring and plunging economies, and the shifting demographics in all of our companies. Amid the turbulence, however, show that there are three basic goals that the vast majority of employees want from their work, regardless of their ages, cultures, or locations. They are:

Achievement. Seeing their own accomplishments and taking pride in their work

Camaraderie. Developing and maintaining positive, diverse, inclusive, and productive relationships

Equity. Being treated fairly in matters such as pay, benefits, training, professional development, and opportunities.

In seeking root causes for concerns around recruitment, retention, and disengagement in your workforce, conventional wisdom says come back to the basics: If you create and support an environment of respect and fairness, the rest will follow.
