Slowly, slowly, big manufacturers and retailers of electronics goods are coming round to a proactive approach to recycling. After years of resisting state mandates that they bear responsibility for the tons of TVs, PCs, game consoles and other e-waste flowing onto US dumps, electronics companies are changing their approach. The latest: Best Buy is trialling a program in 117 of its stores in Baltimore, Minneapolis, and San Francisco that will take back two e-waste items per day, no questions asked. Let’s hope it goes nation wide: my box of dead e-gear keeps growing, and I don’t know what to do with it!
