Advice: The challenges and opportunities for next generation leaders are immense. My advice for emerging leaders is to take those experiences that will develop their skills and leadership competencies broadly versus a strictly vertical career path. International and cross-functional expertise will enable a next-generation leader to be more effective and better prepared. Listen and learn from those who have gone before you, too.
Qualities sought in emerging leaders: I am most interested in leaders who demonstrate an intellectual curiosity and continued desire to learn even if they have been hugely successful to date. It is important that leaders have some passion for the business they run. I look for a leader who can inspire their teams to perform and deliver against objectives as this is a trait increasingly important for success. I am always interested in how a leader has learned from past challenges and perceived missteps—and whether they maintain a level of humility as well. A great sense of humor is also important.
Sector specialization: Fast-moving consumer goods, retail, consumer durables, consumer services
Job function specialization: C-suite, board directors, presidents
Geographical Focus: Global
Companies I often recruit for: Confidential
Favorite historical figure: Mother Teresa. On the one hand, Mother Teresa's work with the less advantaged was remarkable and profound. But, in addition, she was a transformational leader. She possessed an acute business sense and a tenacity that, combined with her inspirational confidence, enabled her to create a globally recognized and supported mission. Even those who were not of any religious persuasion, believed in and supported her work because of her leadership, her focus, and her commitment to service.

The global business trend that will most influence corporate performance in the future: The globalization of consumerism, specifically the growing impact of consumer and economic independence in larger developing countries that have historically followed vs. set trends. They will create new centers of influence that will need to be understood by business leaders to compete effectively on a global scale.
