Blogging changes: Why Twitter instead?

Do I Twitter because I’m lazy? I few times this weekend, I’ve sat down with a laptop and thought ever so briefly about blogging. But then I wonder if the blog post is relevant, interesting enough, perhaps a tad too self-focused. Much of what I’m thinking about most these days—politics, promoting my book—lies on the border off my (self-imposed) limits. So what it boils down to is that on a three-day weekend, blogging means actually doing BusinessWeek work. I think I need my own blog.

Twitter, on the other hand, is a breeze. It can be irrelevant, nakedly self-promotional, and I can do it without logging into BusinessWeek’s virtual private network (which is a big pain). Long story short: Blogging feels more like writing a story, and Twittering feels as free as blogging used to. The question, of course, is whether this freedom and 140-character self-expression produces value… In any case, I’m enjoying following the people I follow, and throwing in my occasional 2 cents.
