Web Searching Dramatically Favors "Old Reliables"

Cars.com released the list of models that drew the most searches on its website in September. Yikes. It doesn’t look like Detroit advertising is penetrating much into the web searching car-buying community. Just one of the top ten vehicles searched on the site was a domestic: the Ford Mustang. And the Mustang isn’t new. It just happens to routinely draw a lot of Net searches because if its iconic brand image and design.

The top ten searched last month are: Honda Accord, Honda Civic, Toyota Camry, Nissan Altima, Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4, Toyota Corolla, Mercedes-Benz C Class, Mustang and Toyota Highlander.

Look at the concentration of Hondas and Toyotas!! People searching the web, full of independently generated content about vehicles—quality, reviews, reputation—search those brands, not surprisingly, that exemplify the “rational” purchase.
