The Shape of Information Is Changing--Microsoft Chases Yahoo And Thomson Is Chasing Reuter's?
Bruce Nussbaum
The information landscape is changing very fast. First Murdoch makes a bid for The Wall Street Journal. Now Microsoft appears to be making a bid for Yahoo. And Thomson is chasing Reuters. Wowie. Toronto-based Thomson and Reuters are both very big in financial data. As is the WSJ.
Microsoft, of course, lost Double-Click to Google and is falling further beyond in both search and advertising. Yahoo would help in both. Microsoft has many billions of cash just sitting around it.
Amazing how fast an entire industry can change hands--and change shape.
